Industrial Failure Protecton Disc Brakes

The SE series electromagnetic fail-safe disc brake is a normally closed safety braking device that uses spring braking and electric release. When power is applied, electromagnetic force overcomes the spring force to release the brake; in the event of a sudden power failure or circuit malfunction, the strong spring instantly drives the brake caliper to clamp the brake disc, automatically locking the system and effectively preventing falling loads or equipment runaway.
Main Feature
- Small size and light weight. Asbestos free brake pad, green and environmental protection, convenient and fast installation and replacement.
- Compact structure, large braking torque, same as working brake.
- In case of overspeed, it is used as emergency brake, and the response time of static brake is short under normal conditions.
- The installation tolerance is large, and the maximum value of end face runout of brake disc is ±0.2mm.Perpendicularity deviation of base relative to disc:±4‰.

- Ambient temperature:-20℃~+50℃
- There shall be no inflammable or explosive gas in the surrounding working environment.
- Relative humidity:the relative humidity of the air is not more than 90%
- The altitude of the place of use conforms to GB755-2019
- Outdoor rain and snow erosion or corrosive gases and media should use anti-corrosion products.

Q1: What is the working principle of the SE electromagnetic fail-safe disc brake?
A: It is a normally closed structure with "spring braking and electromagnetic release." When the equipment is powered on normally, the electromagnet generates attractive force to compress the brake spring, causing the brake caliper to disengage from the brake disc, allowing the shaft to rotate freely. Once power is cut off, the control circuit loses power, or the rectifier power supply fails, the spring force immediately releases, pushing the friction pads to clamp tightly against the brake disc, thus achieving lock-up and preventing load drop or equipment rollback.
Q2: Why can't it be directly connected to AC power for use?
A: The brake excitation coil is designed for direct current (commonly DC99V/DC170V) and must be paired with a dedicated rectifier (typically converting AC input of 220V/380V to the corresponding DC voltage). Directly applying alternating current will cause the coil to overheat, burn out, result in unstable attraction force, or even lead to immediate damage.
Q3: How is the braking torque determined during selection?
A: First, calculate the required static holding torque for the drive shaft as T = F × r (where F is the tangential load force and r is the effective radius of the brake disc), then multiply by a safety factor of 1.5–2.0 to determine the minimum rated braking torque of the brake. At the same time, verify the following parameters: brake disc diameter/thickness, shaft diameter, mounting hole spacing, power supply voltage, and ambient temperature (standard type operates within -20°C to +50°C).
