What components does the crane brake consist of?
Brake frame
That is, the mechanical structure fixed on the base
Fixed to the crane frame using bolts, and it bears the entire set of brakes.
Brake arms (one on each side)
Steel plate or cast steel structure. The upper end is hinged to the base, and the lower end is equipped with brake pads to transmit the spring force and the push force from the actuator.
Brake pads + Brake Liners (Brake Shoes)
Pad body - Gray cast iron / cast steel / steel plate welded arc-shaped frame, hinged to the brake arm via a pin shaft;
Brake pads - non-castor resin base, riveted or clamped onto the brake pads.
Brake spring (main spring)
Installed inside the spring tube/flexible tube. Provides clamping force when power is off. With a torque scale, it allows adjustable preload.
Equal travel distance device
Ensures that the retreat distances of both bearing blocks are always equal, avoiding uneven wear.
Retraction distance and torque adjustment device
Includes adjusting nuts, screws, limit bolts, etc., used to set the gap between the brake block and the brake wheel as well as the compression amount of the spring.
Self-lubricating hinge point bearings
At each swing pin shaft, there are composite oil-free bushings, which reduce friction and require minimal maintenance.
Manual release device (optional)
Mechanical lever. In case of power failure, it can be manually pushed to open the brake arm, allowing for winding or maintenance.
Electric Hydraulic Propulsion System
Typically, the Ed series (the mainstream model) or the YT1/YTD series are used as the power source for the brake:
Three-phase asynchronous motor: drives centrifugal hydraulic pump;
Hydraulic pump + cylinder + piston + push rod: Motor operation → Impeller rotates to build pressure → Piston and push rod extend linearly → Releases the brake arm (relieves the brake);
Oil chamber: 25# hydraulic oil at normal temperature is used.
Travel limiters and junction boxes.
Related but not part of the brake body
Brake wheel (brake drum): Installed on the high-speed shaft of the reducer or the drum shaft, usually functioning as one of the halves of the coupling, and not supplied with the brake.
Optional accessories: pad wear limit switch, gate opening indication limit switch, automatic compensation device, rainproof cover, etc.
