Riveted type
The brake pads are directly riveted onto the arc surface of the wheel block using aluminum/copper rivets, or are fastened with countersunk screws.
Features: Simple structure, low cost, and not prone to detachment, suitable for routine operating conditions.
Disadvantage: Replacing the gasket requires removing the rivets, re-riveting them, or replacing the entire gasket block. This process is a bit more cumbersome in the field.

Card-insertion type / Embedded type
The back of the cushion is equipped with a tongue or a dovetail groove. It can be directly inserted into the pre-fabricated card slots of the tile and is fixed by the spring plate or the baffle, without using rivets.
Features: Replacement is extremely fast (can be done in just a few minutes), no need to disassemble the brake arm, and no need to drill or rivet. Maintenance is convenient.
Disadvantages: The unit price is slightly higher. For some older models, the wear plates are not compatible and a complete set of wear plates needs to be replaced.

Brake pads material
The mainstream types are divided into three categories
Non-asbestos resin-based / semi-metallic (most commonly used)
Using resin as the binder, along with glass fibers, steel fibers, graphite, etc. for reinforcement - this is a semi-metallic asbestos-free friction material.
The friction coefficient μ is approximately 0.35 to 0.42, and the temperature resistance is about 200 to 250℃. It meets the requirements of most bridge and gantry cranes.
Compliant with current national standards / recommended for use in special equipment.
Powder metallurgy (copper-based/iron-based)
It is made by sintering copper-based or iron-based powders, with high temperature resistance (>350℃), good wear resistance, and a small decrease in friction coefficient at high temperatures.
It is used for metallurgical casting hoists, port gantry cranes, etc. in high-frequency, heavy-load or high-temperature environments. It is relatively expensive and slightly wears out the brake wheels.
Asbestos brake pads (obsolete)
The traditional asbestos-resin/asbestos-woven brake pads have gradually withdrawn from the market due to their carcinogenic properties. It is not recommended to use them for new equipment purchases.
How to determine if the brake pads need to be replaced?

Is the remaining thickness reaching the wear limit?
This is the most fundamental basis for judgment:
Snap-in gasket: Replace when the remaining thickness is ≤ 2 to 4 mm.
Adhesive-bonded gasket: Replace when the distance from the friction surface of the gasket to the head of the rivet (or the bottom surface of the blind hole) is ≤ 1 to 2 mm.
Never allow the rivet to touch the brake wheel. Once the metal is exposed, it will immediately damage the brake wheel.

Check if the wear pattern is abnormal
| Abnormal phenomenon | Explanation |
| Severe wear and tear | Mostly, the hinge points of the bricks are stuck or the retreat distances are uneven. Before replacing, the alignment/retreat distances of the brake must be dealt with first. |
| Debris, corner breakage or through-cracks in the lining | Resin-based materials may age or be subjected to impact, and continued use may result in sudden cracking. |
| Extensive carbonization/burning (turning black and shiny, becoming hard and brittle) | There has been excessive temperature or prolonged semi-engagement sliding friction, resulting in a decrease in the friction coefficient. |
| The padding has come off or bulged from the roof tiles. | The bonding or clamping mechanism has failed, and it may fly off during operation. |
