The fault of an industrial brake being unopenable or not resetting

Jan 09, 2026

Causes of the Fault: Brake Cannot Be Released (The Brake Cannot Be Loosened)

Mechanical system failure

The main spring is set too tightly: the electromagnetic force is insufficient to overcome the spring force and release the brake.

Brake hinge jamming: The brake shoe cannot be disengaged from the brake wheel, and the jammed area needs to be cleaned.

The brake screw is bent: the screw head cannot touch the moving iron core of the magnet, and the brake shoes cannot be released.

The brake lining is adhered to the brake wheel: There is oil contamination on the working surface of the brake wheel, which causes adhesion. The oil contamination needs to be removed.

Hydraulic system failure

Insufficient oil pressure in the hydraulic station: not enough to overcome the spring force and the resistance of the piston movement.

The hydraulic cylinder is too tight or stuck: The resistance to the piston movement increases, and the brake cannot be released.

Improper use of oil: The oil grade does not meet the requirements or the oil quality is poor, resulting in clogging of the oil passage.

Insufficient or deteriorated brake fluid: Affects the normal operation of the hydraulic system.

Electrical system failure

Burnt electromagnet coil or broken wiring: Replace the coil or reconnect the circuit.

Excessive voltage drop in the line: The voltage of the electromagnet coil is lower than 80% of the rated voltage, and the switch cannot be opened.

Brake switch failure: Short circuit or open circuit in the control line, affecting the normal operation of the brake.

Electronic control unit failure: causing the brake to fail to respond normally

Causes of Faults in Brake Not Resetting

Return mechanism failure

Broken or weakened return spring: The brake pedal or brake pads cannot be pushed back to their original position.

Brake caliper piston seized: The piston cannot return to its original position, causing the brake pad to remain in contact with the brake disc continuously.

The brake slave cylinder is short of oil: Rust inside the cylinder affects its retraction, and grease needs to be added.

Key Points List of Industrial Brakes
How do you determine if the friction plates need to be replaced?

Hydraulic system problems

Brake master cylinder cup jamming: Water or impurities entering the brake system cause the cups to swell. The cups need to be replaced.

Brake line blockage or oil leakage: Affects the normal flow of brake fluid. Inspection and repair are required.

Brake fluid aging: Performance deteriorates due to long periods without replacement; regular replacement is necessary.

Mechanical Component Issues

Brake pads sticking to the brake discs: Sticking occurs due to oil or foreign matter on the surface. Cleaning or replacement is required.

Severe wear of brake pads: The friction coefficient decreases, and replacement is required promptly.

Insufficient tension of the brake shoe spring: The spring needs to be replaced.

Industrial Brake Maintenance Cycle Guide

Troubleshooting and Handling Methods

System check steps

Check the hydraulic system: Ensure that the hydraulic oil level and pressure are normal and that there are no leaks in the pipelines.

Inspect the electrical system: Measure the resistance of the electromagnet coil, and check the control circuit and voltage.

Check mechanical components: Inspect whether springs, pistons, hinges, etc. are stuck or damaged.

Common Treatment Methods

Adjust the clearance: Adjust the clearance between the brake shoes and the brake disc to the standard value (usually 0.25 - 1 mm).

Clean components: Remove oil stains and foreign objects from the working surface of the brake wheel.

Replace worn parts: Replace worn brake pads, springs, seals, etc.

Exhaust operation: Remove air from the hydraulic system

Preventive Maintenance Recommendations

Regular inspection: Check the hydraulic oil level and system pressure every shift, and inspect the brake pad wear once a week.

Regular replacement: Brake fluid should be replaced every two years or 40,000 kilometers. Disc springs need to be replaced when the cumulative action exceeds 500,000 times.

Keep clean: Regularly clean the surface of the brake to prevent the accumulation of oil and dust.
