Normally Closed Electric Hydraulic Caliper Disc Type Brake
YPZ2 is a normally closed electro-hydraulic thruster shoe disc brake (also called an arm-disc brake). It is commonly used in lifting, metallurgy, mining, ports, and other applications requiring "safety braking on power failure." The core logic is: spring-applied braking, Ed-series electro-hydraulic thruster power release.
Description

How to Read the Model Number
Taking YPZ2-630Ⅱ/121-MSK1-Left as an example:
YPZ2: Series, electro-hydraulic thruster shoe disc brake
630: Applicable brake disc diameter φ630 mm (some manufacturers name by braking torque class, e.g., YPZ2-630 means approx. 630 N·m class; distinguish by manufacturer naming)
Ⅱ: Frame size (Ⅰ/Ⅱ/Ⅲ basic type; Ⅳ/Ⅴ/Ⅵ reinforced type, with interlocking equal clearance and automatic shoe alignment)
121: Matched with Ed121/6 thruster
M: Automatic lining wear compensation; S: Manual release; K1: Open limit switch; K2: Closed limit switch; K3: Wear limit switch
Left/Right type: Determine the brake installation side facing the brake disc
Working Principle
Power-on release: The thruster motor drives the hydraulic pump → the push rod lifts → both brake arms open → the shoes separate from the disc, allowing the equipment to rotate.
Power-off/fault braking: The thruster loses pressure → the brake spring pulls the arms together → the two linings clamp the brake disc, stopping via friction. This is a safety type of power-failure braking.
For models with automatic compensation, the clearance is automatically compensated after lining wear, resulting in more stable braking torque and less manual gap adjustment.

Note: Even if labeled "YPZ2-630," some manufacturers refer to a disc diameter of 630, while others mean a torque class of approx. 630 N·m. When inquiring, provide all four items: "disc diameter + thruster + frame + additional functions" to avoid shipping errors.
Maintenance Key Points
Daily inspection every 1–3 days (more frequent for high-frequency conditions): thruster oil level, oil leakage, motor insulation, hinge point flexibility, switch signals.
Linings: Replace when effective wear thickness <3mm; asbestos-free plug-in pieces can directly replace the shoe block; ensure transmission mechanism cannot accidentally rotate before replacement.
Clearance: Both sides should be equal; single-sided dragging will cause heating and uneven wear; models with equal clearance/automatic compensation require less adjustment; purely manual types require gap readjustment per manufacturer specifications.
Brake disc: Free of oil, rust, and welding scars; if cracks deeper than 0.5mm are found, repair/grind, or replace if severe.
Pin shaft/core shaft wear exceeding 5% of original diameter or ovality >0.5mm, or cracks in levers/springs require immediate replacement.
No-release troubleshooting: phase loss/low voltage (e.g., below 85% of rated), low oil level, air in system, spring adjusted too tight, hinge point jamming, thruster damage.
