Operating method of parking brake

May 08, 2020

What is a brake?

A brake is a mechanical part that causes moving parts in a machine to stop or slow down.

So who knows what a parking brake is?

How does it work?

Parking brake usually refers to the motor vehicle installation of the manual brake, short hand brake.

When parking brake, press down on the brake pedal and pull out the parking brake lever.

To release the parking brake, press down on the brake pedal, pull the parking brake lever up slightly, press the button on the handle with your thumb, and then lower the parking brake lever to the original position.

For a car with an automatic transmission, be sure to apply parking brakes before moving the gear lever to a "P" position.

If you change gears to the "P" position before parking brake when parking on sloping ground, the weight of the body will make it difficult to shift out of the "P" (parking) when you are ready to start the car.

When preparing to start a car, shift the gear lever out of "P" (stop) before releasing the parking brake.

Do not tighten the parking brake when starting the car, otherwise it will overheat, so that the rear brake effect is reduced, brake life shortened or permanent brake damage.

If the parking brake does not stop the vehicle steadily or is unable to disengage completely, the dealer or service station should be asked to inspect immediately.

Before leaving the car, always pull all parking brakes, or the car will move, causing injury or damage.

When parked, be sure to keep the shift lever of a manual transmission car in neutral: keep the shift lever of an automatic transmission car in either a "P" (parking) or an "N" (parking) position, and most automatic transmission cars can't pull out the ignition key until they are in P.

In the absence of special circumstances, the vehicle transmission is strictly prohibited from parking in forward gear (D, S, L or with Arabic numerals, etc.) or reverse gear (R) position.
