Windproof Iron Wedge Brakes
Windproof iron wedge brake of gantry crane, portal crane, loading and unloading bridge and other rail cranes working in open air such as port, wharf and railway. At the same time,it can also work together with anchoring device and windproof cable to take safe windproof braking measures for crane under non working state.
Description
Windproof iron wedge brake

The YFX Windproof iron wedge brake is an electro-hydraulic windproof brake designed specifically for large rail cranes in open locations such as ports, docks, and railways. It effectively prevents equipment from moving or overturning due to strong winds, both in operation and in non-operational conditions. It is a crucial safety component in cranes.
MAIN FEATURE
- All hinge points are fitted with self-lubrication bearings, with high transmission efficiency, agile movement and long service life.
- With manual release function, and easy to maintain.
- The thrusters with spring resetting function avoiding the following situation: the wedge can't reset in time because the thruster's un-agile after power went off.
- The wedge is treated with special technique. It has high friction coefficient and excellent anti-corrosion performance.
OPERATING CONDITION
- Ambient temperature:-20℃~+50℃
- Relative humidity:air relative humidity is not more than 90%
- Voltages:AC 3 phase 380V 50Hz
- Operating duty:intermittent (S3-60%. 1200 times per hour) and continuous(S1)
- Special requirements can be discussed before production.

- Note:Electro-hydraulic thruster wiring box can be installed turning 90 degree, and also can be installed in specified position according to customer's requirement.
- The Windproof iron wedge brake is divided into left type and right type. From the main view above, the pusher is left type on the left and right type on the right.
- Due to different specifications, the specific structure may differ from the above figure.
- The size of the specific type and structure should be retained.
FAQ
| Fault Phenomenon | Possible causes | Solution |
|---|---|---|
|
Insufficient braking performance/weakness |
Severe wear of brake friction block (tooth wear exceeds half) | Add an adjustment shim so that the bottom surface of the friction block is about 1mm higher than the iron wedge ground; if the wear is severe, the friction block should be replaced or repaired. |
| Brake friction surface has oil stains, dirt | Clean the brake caliper disc or friction block surface of oil and dirt, check and replace damaged seals. | |
| There is air in the brake oil circuit. | Perform the exhaust operation on the brake oil circuit. | |
| Air pressure adjustment too low (if pneumatic assist) |
Check and adjust the air circuit pressure to the specified value. |
|
|
Brake-induced steering drift |
Unilateral brake failure or uneven braking torque on both sides | Check the brakes on both sides for wear, oil contamination, and synchronized operation, and adjust or repair them accordingly. |
|
Brake jamming |
The brake release is not thorough, and the friction block continues to rub against the track. | Check the working condition of the pusher (whether the push rod stroke is in place, whether the hydraulic oil is sufficient, and whether there is any oil leakage); check whether the pins and hinge points are stuck or rusted, and lubricate or replace them. |
|
abnormal actuator operation |
Pusher oil leakage or seepage | Check and replace seals; add or replace hydraulic oil that meets the requirements (such as DB-25 or DB-45 transformer oil). |
| The actuator rod rises insufficiently (decreases with the wear of the friction block) |
Regular inspection and adjustment. The lifting height of the actuator rod in the braking state must not be less than the minimum specified value (Hmin), otherwise it will fail. |
|
| Power or electrical failure | Check the power supply voltage (usually three-phase AC 380V), the insulation performance of the incoming cable, and whether the wiring is secure. | |
|
abnormal noise |
Brake internal components loose or worn | Tighten all loose nuts and bolts; check the wear condition of each pin shaft and mandrel (replace if worn by more than 5% of the original diameter or ovality exceeds 0.5mm). |
|
Manual release device failure |
Organ jam or damage | Ensure that the manual release function is working properly: During maintenance, turn on the power or use a manual device to lift the iron wedge to its highest position, insert the pin to secure it for maintenance. |
🧰 Daily Maintenance and Inspection Key Points
Periodic maintenance is key to preventing failures, and the following aspects should be given special attention:
Friction Block Condition: Regularly check the wear condition and surface cleanliness of the friction blocks, and strictly prohibit contamination with grease.
Pusher Check: This includes checking the hydraulic oil level, sealing integrity (for leaks), push rod travel, as well as the reliability of electrical connections.
Structural Components and Hinge Points: Inspect the wear condition of all pin shafts and mandrels, regularly lubricate all swing hinge points (usually equipped with self-lubricating bearings) to ensure flexible movement.
Manual Release Function: Regularly test the manual release device to ensure it can be used normally in emergency situations.
Final Verification: After maintenance, a functional test must be conducted to ensure that the brake can release properly when energized, reliably engage when de-energized, and there are no abnormal noises.
