Description

YPN12.7-A hydraulic caliper brake

Caliper disc brakes are primarily driven by hydraulic or pneumatic pressure, and their core components are the brake caliper, brake disc, and friction pads (brake pads). The working principle is this: when the power source (hydraulic oil or compressed air) pushes the piston in the brake caliper, the piston drives the friction pad on one side to clamp the brake disc, which rotates with the wheel or axle. At the same time, the brake caliper moves slightly under the reaction force, driving the friction pad on the other side to press against the brake disc, thereby generating braking torque through friction, achieving deceleration or stopping.

01

Operating Principle

The YPN12.7-A hydraulic caliper brake consists of two main components: a brake frame and a cylinder (see schematic diagram). When oil is flowing through hydraulic cylinder 1, piston rod 5 rapidly retracts under the action of air pressure. The left and right brake arms, under the action of return spring 4, rapidly open friction blocks 12 (i.e., release the brakes). When oil is no longer flowing through the cylinder, piston rod 5 rapidly extends under the action of the internal spring force, pushing the left and right brake arms and friction blocks (i.e., 12) together, closing the brakes.

02

Brake Installation

1. First, inspect the brake disc and brake pads for sludge or other contaminants on their braking surfaces.

2. Install the Z1/4" connector on the oil inlet of cylinder 1 and connect the oil line with a hose.
3. During installation, first apply oil pressure to retract the piston rod 5 into the cylinder. Then, install the friction block 12 perpendicular to the brake disc axis into the brake disc. Finally, secure the base 9 horizontally to the rigid machine base, ensuring that its centerline is aligned with the center of the brake disc thickness. See the structural diagram for installation location and dimensions.

03

Commissioning

1. Adjust the oil pressure to a range of 8-12 MPa.
2. Before normal operation, test-operate the brake several times to check for any abnormalities.
3. The friction pad's setback can be adjusted by rotating the adjustment lever 6 to change the working stroke. When rotating the adjustment lever, first introduce hydraulic oil to retract the piston rod, then adjust the position.

04

Maintenance

As the friction pad wears, the working stroke of this brake increases. When the working stroke reaches 8 mm, immediately adjust the member 6 to return the working stroke to approximately 4 mm. Otherwise, braking will fail. After adjustment, tighten the nut 7. When the friction pad 12 is worn to approximately 6 mm, it must be replaced. The replacement steps are as follows:
1. First, remove the spring wire 11 from the brake pad and the friction pad 12.
2. Place the new friction pad into the U-shaped groove of the brake pad and insert the spring wire. Then check that the friction pad is securely installed.
